PLEASE use a Spell Checker like Site-Spell

You only have 7 seconds to make a good impression – and that works for websites too – Misspelling is a big NO. Site Spell is an extension to add to your chrome browser – it lets you instantly check the spelling of all content on a web page, including title tags, HTML elements, and hidden items.

We have several types of profiles in our team and partners, and while some are not too worried about spelling because they are doing “bigger things” like custom coding an entire catalog, misspelling the word catalog, for example, makes all the work done look “stupid”. But go explain that to a developer!

Anyway, we use a lot of tools but this one is free and gives you peace of mind because it’s a seamless integration if you already use Chrome!

Oh and last cool thing: Auto-Check:
The auto-check feature allows you to add domains that will be checked automatically for misspellings every time you visit a page. This feature makes it easy to identify spelling errors “as you browse” web sites that you added to the auto-check list.

Here is the link to this beautiful Chrome extension: Site Spell.

Ok – now that I pretended it’s a cool tool I can tell you that it’s really because of my obsession/fascination, or lack thereof, for emails/websites/people who can’t spell – isn’t there anybody in their team whose as annoying as me when it comes to grammar and spelling? How can they let that one out without proofreading any of it! I’ll talk to you about Grammarly soonish then…

Use WordFence to secure your WordPress Website

Wordfence is a WordPress security plugin. With WordPress being one of the most widely used website builder tools, hackers and others have created many ways to hack and use bots to change content on websites and steal personal information. Or to highjack your domain name and use it for unsavory activities.

As a web developer specializing in WordPress I’ve spent way too long removing malware files and cleaning out sites after they’ve been hacked. Usually it will be from a client who wanted to save money and maintain the site themselves, forgetting to update plugins or theme files or installed a bad plugin.

WordFence is a plugin for WordPress that adds a ton of security and monitoring to your website to keep hackers, and bots out and to notify you of issues as you arise. They monitor login attempts for you and track IP information of people trying to gain access. It is a little scary when you see just how many bots try to gain access to a low traffic small business website.

WordFence has a free version and if you are storing valuable information on your site or have a larger presence you can opt for their pro version.

If you’ve already been hacked contact us today to help clean out your site, if you’re doing it yourself WordFence has some great systems to help you find all the malware and clean out the site after you’ve been hacked.

WordFence is a great tool and you should definitely use it if you are managing your own site.  Click here for the link to the download.

How to set up an SSL Certificate for Free on GoDaddy

Follow these steps to set up an SSL Certificate for free on GoDaddy. It should take you about 10 minutes to accomplish this your first time.

Step 1

Go to ZeroSSL.com and fill out your domain information on the right side. Make sure to use both versions of your URL address. For this example, we used momotarocafe.com and www.momotarocafe.com. Once you have it in there check off the TOS checkboxes and click the next button in the top right corner of the screen. Once you hit next it will take a minute or two to generate your CSR (Second picture below).

Hosting your WordPress Website

Congratulations! You either just had a website developed for you (hopefully by us) or you are in the process of getting one.

During the development phase and right before launch we might ask you where you will have your website hosted. Most of our clients used to have GoDaddy host their WordPress website, and guess what? We moved about 85% of them to a company called Flywheel.

How to use Gmail for your 1and1 email

How to use gmail for your 1and1 email for free?

I have received so many thank you emails from people who used my tutorial to set up their Godaddy email on their Gmail account that I thought maybe some folks who are using 1and1 could also benefit from a similar tutorial! I know that 1and1 email platform is not better than GoDaddy, and we won’t blame them, it’s not their core business anyway.

So if you are using 1and1 for your emails, and want to be able to read and write your emails on Gmail instead, GOOD NEWS! You’ve come to the right place! You can set up your 1and1 email on your gmail account and use gmail for your 1and1 email to receive and reply by following a very quick and easy tutorial below.

Rebranding for Philly Living: Real Estate team

Philly Living came to Brand Revive wanting to have new signage designed. After brainstorming with their team we decided they needed a new branding to go along with any creative material we would produce.

Brand Revive did just what we were born to do: we revived their brand!

We designed a new logo for them, a new brand identity, new business cards, folders, thank you cards, etc.. and we wanted to create for them something different than the other real estate companies, we all agree it should be creative, innovative, out of the box and recognizable.

How to use Gmail for your Godaddy email

How to use gmail for your Godaddy email for free?

I would say 7 out of 10 of our clients pay too much for hosting when they first come to us. If their website does not require to host so many files (talking about thousands and thousands of files) videos, pictures, etc… there is no reason for them to pay more than $10/month for their hosting!

So we usually direct them to Godaddy because we like their customer service, we like their price, and frankly speaking, our job is not hosting, so overcharge our clients for products they could get on their own is not our policy…! Beware of webdesign companies offering you to host your website – why would you? All they really do is make you pay more for what providers like Godaddy provides them.

Anyway, since a lot of our clients are set up on Godaddy now, we had to find a better way for them to check, read and

12 Mac shortcuts to make your life easier

Last week on the phone with 3 different clients, I found myself explaining to them how to take a screen shot of what they wanted to show me.
All 3 of them were amazed that they now could take a screen shot of anything on their Mac. Keyboard shortcuts on Mac Operating System are not only time savers, they are also just cool. There are many mac shortcuts, but we selected the most helpful ones, and created a cheat sheet you can print out and keep it handy. (Don’t worry Baby Boomers, Brand Revive classes are coming soon!)
